Caprice

caprice_2.jpgWe hear her name and instantly think model – super model.  Yet that’s not what Caprice is about today she’s very much the business lady with her sights set firmly on success.  When talking to her she was very quick to point out Caprice Lingerie is her business, it’s her money at stake, if it doesn’t work out she’s everything to lose!

Chatting to her was lovely - she was friendly, very natural and extremely honest. She said she had never worked as hard in her life.  Caprice wants to be known as a business woman - an astute business woman at that.

I talked to Caprice about her life and business:

 - Why did you choose lingerie?

Caprice - “I chose to concentrate on By Caprice Lingerie instead of the entertainment world because I love making women look good and feel amazing. I originally wanted to be Governor of California and am now making undies for my ladies … go figure!  Also, for the first time in my life I get excited on Mondays because I
love what I do!! I find it so much more fulfilling than anything else I have ever done.”

 - Do you consider that you are successful and are you are still ambitious?

Caprice – “I am incredibly ambitious that is one of the reasons why my company has grown so fast. There have been quite a few pitfalls and I have just picked myself up, learned from my many mistakes and keep driving forward to becoming one of the world’s leading lingerie companies.”

 – Is there anything you think has hindered or helped you along the way?

Caprice – “Learning about everything to do with running a lingerie company. I have even picked and packed my own little undies. I have invested my own money, so I don’t have any quality partners….this is great, but also can be dangerous, as it’s all my own money! Trust me, it is a totally different inspiration…and when you make mistakes you learn fast to never make them again because that means it usually costs you big bucks.”

 – Can you give any tips to my readers who want to create their own business?

Caprice – “My top tips for any woman wanting to build a successful business is make sure you offer a unique selling point, a service or product that makes you different from the competition.  Exploit technology…invest in a website! This is absolutely crucial to business. If a customer wants to reach you, the first thing they will do is look online.  You need to separate your fixed and variable costs. The market place is unpredictable and dynamic…things move rapidly and you need to be reactive to change.  If you are looking to build a long term business, don’t be greedy. I offer an incredibly competitive price to my customers and I am taking a bit of hit with my margins but I am shifting double the stock and I am a best seller for the majority of my clients.  The right staff - many entrepreneurs cannot excel in every area so you need to surround yourself with the people that excel where you don’t!  Finally, passion and persistence!  A successful business has to be become an obsession…forget about men. It truly is all about undies in my world!!”

 - We always talk of juggling –when we speak of successful women – yet we don’t ask this of men – what are your views on this?

Caprice – “Well the reality is because women have to multi-task and this means that women are naturally going to be able to cope with more. We bear children, usually look after them and in many instances these days are the money earners….regardless if you have a partner or not. Personally, I would rather have to juggle than rely on anyone! Independence is freedom.”

- Who are your role models? Do you have one?

Caprice – “My role model is my mother. She is one of those successful women who have juggled things all her life. It was and still is amazing how she put in those 12-hour days to give my sister and I an amazing childhood and always managed to make every single football game (I was a head cheerleader). She attended every single cheer competition, and every play I stared in, and parent/teacher conference and so it goes on. I couldn’t have asked for a more supportive and more longing parent…ever”.

 - Do you believe you are lucky or it’s down to just hard work?

Caprice – “Luck…a little…hard work and persistence, A LOT!!!”

 – I see you support Childline – why this charity?

Caprice – “Esther Rantzen persuaded me to go to their call centre and listen to some of the calls – there was one call that tore at my heart strings - I had to get involved”.

 – And the future – what next?

Caprice – “I’m looking to move into occasional wear, my swimwear range sold out so I will be developing both of these.
