Preparation
Before you even think of applying a fake tan – have a look at the range of fake tans on offer – if you have a pale skin – start pale – gradually build up the colour over several days.  Find a self tanning cream or mousse or spray that will work best for you, give it a try on an area usually hidden so you can see the colour.

To create that perfect home tan, preparation is key to getting great results.  It is essential to exfoliate first this removes the dead skin cells, making your skin soft and smooth which will mean that your tan will look more even and will provide longer lasting results.

Why not try Bnatural conditioning Salt Scrub a great natural product with no mineral oils or parabens priced £4.83    - Womens Everything thinks this is a great product but don’t use this one on your face, find one which has fine particles another good one is The Sanctuary Kyphi Nourishing Hot Sugar Scrub £9.99 or for totally splurge Clarins Smoothing Body Scrub For a New Skin with bamboo powders £23.  Pay particular attention to your elbows, knees and heels.

Apply a moisturizing lotion
About 30 minutes before using you apply your fake tan apply a moisturizing lotion all over you body helping to create a smooth even surface. Important; Pay particular attention to dry areas such as knees, elbows, wrists, ankles, feet & hands this will help to get an even colour.

Application of the Fake Tan

Now you are ready to go.  We suggest using either a sponge or Fake Bake have a Double-Sided Sponge & Soft Cotton Self Tanning Mitt making application smoother and also protects your hands from staining.  Using the mitt means it’s easy to do each hand.

Always apply in circular even motions.  Apply lightly to areas like elbow and knees and if you think you’ve applied too much on these tricky areas get a cotton bud with some moisturiser on and gently wipe.

If you haven’t used a sponge or mitt wash hands immediately and thoroughly after application to stop staining.  You need to let the fake tan dry for at least an hour before putting clothes on. This is important because wearing clothes can not only cause patches but stain them.

The best time to apply a fake tan is say an hour or so before bed this way you don’t have to think about putting clothes on, but do remember use some old towels to lie on so as not to stain your sheets.

Shower off the self tan and moisturise well.  To preserve the tan re-apply every few days.  Remember if you exfoliate and moisturise and you will be able to create that Perfect Fake Tan.
