Detox Your Wardobe

"I’m often told by my clients “I seem to have hundreds of clothes – but then nothing to wear” says Martine
Most women have so much in their wardrobes, they can’t actually see what they have, so they wear the same things all the time (trivia: we wear 20% of our wardrobes, 80% of the time – ludicrous!). Some have paid a small fortune for certain pieces and are loathed to get rid of them – even though they have the tags on and have never seen the light of day! Others don't know if they’re too old for the clothes in their wardrobe –5-10 years ago they may’ve looked great but aren’t too sure if it’s starting to look like the infamous ‘mutton’. The list goes on....
We all have our own reasons for not getting rid of certain things – whatever your reason, now is the perfect time to change! With the sun finally showing its face, I know that some of you will have thought about getting your summer clothes out of hibernation and popping your winter clobber in the loft or suitcase. So, why not detox your wardrobe right now?
Here are a couple of easy tips to get your stylish juices flowing.....
Winter wardrobe

What’s the point in putting it away if you didn’t wear it – and if you didn’t wear it last year, why will you want to wear it next year?
Sometimes we become quite blinded to the occasions we wear something (e.g. “this white shirt is a work shirt – I never wear it out of work”). When I see a white shirt, I don't know if it’s your work shirt or your cleaning shirt – I just see a white shirt and the endless possibilities – the shirt is great for work, amazing with jeans, great as a layered piece, effortless with a summery skirt and a waist belt etc. So try and see the garment for what it is, rather than where you’ve worn it before!

Jeans - Current/Elliott Boyfriend Fit- £190
Summer wardrobe

If your style taste buds have changed since last summer (and most of ours do!), then you may find that most of it needs re-housing and investment is needed for this season!

Again, sometimes we only see a garment how we wore it the previous year. Trends change, and sometimes a fresh set of eyes can open your eyes to customising and trying new styles. Remember the Kaftan you wore over a bikini last summer? This year, cinch it in with a waist belt, add some khaki shorts, a statement necklace and some platforms and you’re right up there in the fashion top 10 trends of the season!

One key thing when you’re ‘clutter clearing’... it’s quite probable (dependant on the last time you saw the back of your wardrobe!) that you may unearth a collection of pieces that have actually been full circle and are bang on trend this season. Take for example, the 80’s.....

I’m sure the words “ooh, I remember wearing that the first time round” have come out of your mouth whilst you’ve been reading Vogue or Grazia this season. Now, it may be a hot trend right now and yes, you may have an original piece but that doesn’t automatically make it OK for you to wear! Think about how old you were when you first wore them and it’ll give you some indication whether you’re hitting that ‘mutton button’ or whether you’re at the top of the style game and wearing “vintage dah-ling!”.
