A child's Christmas present list, and the annual 'Dream Toys' list 2008, announced in mid-October. Drawn up by the Toy Retailers Association (TRA) each year, the Dream Toys list predicts which will be the best-selling toys at Christmas. And as the only official prediction of festive best-sellers, their choices are big news for toy makers. This year the TRA's top 12 reveals a trend towards technology. Life-like dogs, babies who eat, dancing toys and computer-based fantasy games dominate the list. Music, film and TV-inspired toys also feature heavily, with kids clearly planning to indulge in some serious fame fantasies with their favourite rockstars and screen heroes. And finally, the nation's love for nostalgic characters and traditional brands has naturally found a way onto the list. But even the experts' favourite baby doll can now eat real food. DREAM TOYS 2008  BABY born with Magic Potty, priced £34.99, Zapf Creation She can cry real tears, eat special food and when she tinkles her potty plays a tune. BABY born, a life-like baby doll, is predicted to be one of the biggest selling toys this year. As well as being fully moveable, this doll can drink from a bottle, use her potty and wet her nappies. But thankfully, when you place a dummy in her mouth, she'll close her eyes and start to dream away. Suitable for ages 3+  Bakugan Starter Pack, priced £12.99, Spinmaster Children will be begging their parents for this cool game. But beware. Once the kids get their hands on the exciting Bakugan characters and start to compete against the formidable Bakugan monsters, there'll be no stopping them. And with over 288 Bakugan Brawlers and 120 Bakugan game cards to collect, requests to help them save the earth from destruction will just keep coming. All the rage in Hollywood, these particular cupcakes promise to be ready in 30 seconds. After that, the fun is in decorating - and eating - them. Suitable ages 8+  Elmo Live, £59.99, Mattel Gone are the days when you lifted a toy and waggled his legs around to make him dance. This Elmo toy sings, dances and tells funny stories with the professionalism of an X Factor finalist. After years in development, this technologically advanced Elmo Live is sure to be a massive hit with kids. Just don't put him anywhere near an unsuspecting elderly relative.
