| Voluntary contributions or Class 3 National Insurance contributions can be made up back to 1996. This is restricted to nine years which must be claimed within six years
| A claim may be made for children under 16 or a sick or disabled person, but 20 years' in work are still needed to qualify for the full basic State Pension

| 30 years for both women and men
| | The Home Responsibilities Protection system will be replaced by a system of credits for parents and carers hat will count towards State Pension entitlement
