Top Fashion Trends Spring/Summer 2010

Pastels

Pastels are huge this season. Choose from lilac, peach, lemon, rose, apple green and duck egg blue. Go for sorbet shades, or go pretty-in pink. Add interest with gingham, a bit of sparkle, lace or chiffon detailing.

Prints
Prints are everywhere this season whether it’s animal prints, florals, batik, ikat, Breton stripes or neon brights. Statement jewellery or heels finish off this look nicely.

Nudes
Trousers, dresses, tops and skirts in a nude colour is a great way to update your wardrobe this season. Try a pair of high waisted chinos or a nude tone dress for example. It’s important to choose the right nude for your skin tone though. Darker skinned ladies can get away with most shades, be more careful and opt for slightly stronger hue if you have pale skin. 

Denim
You can wear denim head to-toe this season – but keep the rest simple - or mix it with something grey and sporty. Choose from dungarees, shirt-dresses, waistcoats, button-through skirts and jeans in all shapes and styles.

White
A white shirt is a must this season as well as a staple item for your wardrobe. You can also re-work the classic and wear it tucked into chinos, boyfriend jeans or an A-line canvas skirt. Try a head-to-toe white for a high summer and add interest with ruffles, sheer fabrics, layering or structured shapes.

Shorts
The short is a must-have piece this season. Wear yours rolled-up mid thigh and slouchy, a-line, knee length city or bloomer style. If you’ve the pins for it, flaunt them in short shorts this season and a pair of wedges will lengthen the legs!

Sport Luxe
This season opt for directional jersey. Layer high-tech cottons under a soft hooded jersey sweat.  Add heels to those track pants for this season’s laid back, yet fashion forward look. Add a piece of denim and you’re ready to go...

Trench
Belt-up with a lightweight trench this season in beige, cream or pastel. Top tip: large chested ladies opt for single breasted styles, although double is most definitely back in town.

Utility
Utility with a feminine touch made a welcome return to the catwalks. Khaki combat style slim-leg trousers could replace your beloved skinnies as your wardrobe staple this season! Glam yours up with a subtle metallic jacket, layered over a white vest or tee. For outerwear, the sand coloured four pocket jacket and the parka are key pieces.  

Underwear as outerwear
Dare to wear a corset under a blazer or cardi this season. A flash of a pretty cami or bra or a lace slip peeping out from under a skirt all add to this season’s feminine feel. Remember with this look to keep it subtle – yes, less is most definitely more!

Accessorise
Wedges, wooden high heeled studded clogs and the return of the kitten heel are key footwear for the season. Fringing on bags is big news and the bum bag is back! Piles of big bangles or a chunky necklace finish off an outfit nicely. Clinch-in and accentuate your waist with a statement belt.
