5 Top Savvy Sales Tips
By Martine Alexander - a woman who followed her dreams of giving people the confidence to know they look good. Her clients include professionals, footballer’s wives, socialites and celebrities.
Summer’s not even here yet but the end of July is nigh, which can only mean one thing – the sales are here.
You know what it’s like – a pair of Louboutin’s catch your eye from across the floor, you become a woman possessed, ready to kill for those shiny red soles! You jostle against the crowds, prepared to get there before anyone else spots them and swan-dive into the sale rack only to realise that you don't actually like the colour. You hear yourself saying “but they’ve got £150 off”. But, ask yourself this – “would you pay full price for the shoes with the shiny red soles??” If you say “yes”, sing “oh happy days” and skip to the till. If you say “no” then you need to consider whether you’re buying them just because they’re a bargain!
If you want to be stylishly sales savvy this summer and pick up a bargain that will be bang on trend for autumn/winter then read on for my top 5 key pieces to watch out for and where to get them:
1. Brights: Dior had an amazing array of bright colours on the runway with a very evident 60’s feel. From eveningwear through to shoes and accessories – the key theme was to colour match rather not clash - Sale brand to watch: Nine West
2. Ruffles: These are set to carry on into autumn – just make sure you get the right ruffle for you! Vertical and diagonal ruffles can be flattering for the more curvaceous. For you slim jims, have fun and experiment, although leave the ra-ra skirts on the rail! For designer inspiration, see Chanel, Max Mara and Valentino - Sale brand to watch: Topshop
3. Nudes: Quite a late starter in the season and more evident in the Modern Romantics trend, nudes will filter through for autumn in shades of pale grey and beige (see BCBG Max Azria). Word of warning – only wear if the colour suits your skin tone (very fair and dark skin) - Sale brand to watch: Sonia Rykiel
4. Waists: Cinching and highlighting your waist is huge again this season with the forerunners being Alexander McQueen and Fendi. McQueen was awash with corsetry, whilst Fendi used their wide waist belt as a staple throughout the collection - Sale brand to watch: Vivienne Westwood
5. 60’s: The retro look will be once again upon us this winter with neat trapeze and a-line cuts with very small collars from both Wunderkind and Versace. To keep the look simple but striking, invest in key monochrome colours like black and white - Sale brand to watch: Zara
